Happy Birthday Jeff

We got Jeff this shirt for his birthday, and celebrated at Olive Garden. We got some great pictures of Lucas and Emma with Jaden on the real camera. We had a $20.oo gift certificate from JD and Dominique from Christmas that we had never used (how it managed to survive so long we have no idea) and this was a great excuse to use it. We move in 8 days, and school starts again on the 24th. We needed some time out.

So we went to Walmart afterwards, and Lucas has an "accident." Mom changes his clothes and 5 minutes later he has another "accident." Silly kid. He got in trouble for that, and we re-evaluated our potty training techniques. We always tell him when to go, and if we don't tell him, he doesn't go. Actually, he goes, just not where we want him to... So, I thought we should give him more responsibility and not tell him exactly when to go as often, with the hope that he'd take his new independence and run with it. Shawna disagreed. And it seems she was right. She has gone back to the reward system. Lucas loves stickers, and we used stickers when we started to potty train him. For today anyway, sticker rewards have kept him dry. He wants the stickers so badly that he'll try to go pee when he really doesn't have to. He'll push and concentrate so hard, and get one little drop out, and say, "I did it! I went pee in the potty! May I have a sticker please?"

It's amazing to me that he says "may I." I never used this phrase growing up. He sounds so polite and well mannered.

The kids are so excited about packing for The Big Move.

The Allstate 400 at the Brickyard

These were taken at about 11:30 today on 465. The Brickyard 400 (no, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard this year) started at 1:30 or so, and traffic in the northbound lanes was backed up for miles. My southbound lane was wide open. Somehow I've managed to work on all three race days this year: the Indianapolis 500, the F1 U.S. Grand Prix, and now the Brickyard. I hate working Sundays anyway, but it just worked out that way this year.

This morning's fast and testimony meeting seemed to be very focused on families, and enduring family relationships, and the long term blessings that the gospel brings to families. I bore my testimony. I spoke about how much the gospel changed Dad's life. He was not anyone I would have approached to share the gospel with, but the Lord made sure that Dad had the chance to be converted, and I am so grateful he was. If Dad had not joined the church, I would not have ever met Shawna or had the children that I have. My life would have been completely different.
